How Divvy works
- Start a night Tap "Start a session", pick the pub and who's in. Everyone else joins with the night's code or link.
- Log the rounds Add each round as it's ordered: who's having what. If someone pays the bar as you go, record what they paid.
- Check the bill When the night's over, tap "End session". Then scan the receipt or type the prices in, so everyone pays what the bar actually charged.
- Settle up Divvy works out each person's share and shows who pays whom.
- Pay Pay each other however you usually do, then tap "I've paid". The person you paid may be asked to tap "Got it". When every payment is done, the night closes.
Common questions
How do I join a Divvy night?
Ask whoever started it for the join code (it's on their screen) or the join link. Open the link, or tap "Join with code" and type the code in.
How does Divvy split a pub round fairly?
Everyone pays for what they had. You log who's having what in each round, and each drink is charged to the person who had it. Something shared, like a bottle of wine or a bowl of chips, is split between the people sharing it.
What if the bar's price is different from Divvy's?
The bar's price wins. Divvy's prices are estimates, from what people have paid at that pub before. When you scan the receipt or type in what you paid, Divvy uses that amount and shows you the difference.
What does scanning the receipt do?
When you settle up, tap "Scan receipt" and take a photo of the bill. Divvy reads each line, matches it to the drinks you logged and uses the receipt's prices. A service charge or discount on the receipt is included too.
You check it all on the "Check the bill" screen before you tap "Looks right". The prices also help Divvy know what drinks cost at that pub.
What if someone leaves early?
Before they go, they tap "I'm leaving early". Divvy shows their share so far: their own drinks and their part of anything shared. They can pay the bar on the way out, or settle up with the group later.
- If they paid at the bar, they're done. Nothing later in the night changes what they owe.
- If they haven't paid, their share follows any corrections to their own drinks, and whoever settles up is asked whether a service charge or discount on the whole bill applies to them.
How does the crew kitty work?
A crew can keep a kitty: money that one person, the kitty holder, looks after. Divvy keeps the record, and the holder records what goes in.
The kitty is only used on a kitty night, when the whole crew is out, and the holder settles up. The same amount comes off every crew member's share, after everything else is worked out. It can't be more than the smallest crew member's share, and the kitty has to have enough to give everyone the same. Guests pay their normal share.
If a crew member leaves early, the kitty can't be used that night.
Who pays whom at the end?
When you settle up, Divvy adds up each person's share and what each person has already paid the bar. Then it shows a list of payments: who pays whom, and how much. It keeps the list short.
How do we pay each other?
Divvy doesn't move any money. Pay however you usually do, such as a bank transfer or cash, then tap "I've paid" on your line. The person you paid may be asked to tap "Got it" to say it arrived. When every payment is done, the night closes.
Can someone without the app join in?
Yes. During the night, tap "Add non-app user" and type their name. You log their drinks for them, and their share is worked out like everyone else's. If they sign up later, you can send them a link to claim their nights.
Is Divvy free? Do I need to install it?
Divvy is free to use. It works in your phone's browser at app.divvy.pub, so there's nothing to install.
What happens to my data, and how do I delete my account?
You can delete your account at any time: in the app, go to Profile → Edit → Delete account. Your name, email, bank details and photos are deleted. Amounts in past nights stay, shown as "Deleted user", so your friends' totals still add up.
